Removing cultural roadblocks

Cultural roadblocks can occur anywhere and at anytime within a diverse community like our own. Cultural roadblocks occur when functional, smooth operations are inhibited due to the separation of habits, lifestyles, and beliefs.

For example, a rift can occur when two people are attempting to communicate using two different dialects. This could be in a social situation such as at a group dinner, or a professional situation such at a business meeting. Miscommunication can be detrimental to business partnerships as well as social relationships.

Another roadblock could come from a difference in lifestyle and values. An individual who believes in competition over cooperation may appear offensive to someone who grew up in a culture that values working together.

Removing cultural roadblocks may be easier said than done. To do so one should be patient and receptive to change. All parties must be aware and ready for potential cultural differences, with a willingness to change. Maintaining a positive attitude toward new cultural experiences can keep the experiences fun. Furthermore, staying humble regarding a lack of cultural knowledge is an attitude that can open up an array of possibilities regarding new experiences and an enriching way of life.
